Nestled on a secluded peninsula between two channels of the Karnali River, Burhan Wilderness Camp in Bardiya National Park offered us one of the most unforgettable experiences of our travels.
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stillness of the jungle — a deep, almost sacred silence broken only by the distant roar of Bengal tigers echoing at dawn. This luxury tented camp, recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2024, embraces a micro-conservancy ethos where each stay directly supports the protection of rhinos, elephants, swamp deer, and the park’s legendary tigers.
Our days unfolded between guided bushwalks, jeep safaris, and peaceful moments by the river. Every meal was a celebration of the land — locally sourced, organic, and infused with authentic Nepali flavors. Beyond the adventure, what touched us most was knowing that our stay contributed to the Tharu community, helping preserve both nature and culture.

Perché sur une péninsule isolée entre deux bras de la rivière Karnali, le Burhan Wilderness Camp au parc national de Bardiya nous a offert l’une des expériences les plus mémorables de nos voyages.
Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été fascinés par le calme profond de la jungle, un silence presque sacré, seulement interrompu par le rugissement lointain des tigres du Bengale à l’aube. Ce camp de luxe sous tente, reconnu par TIME Magazine parmi les 100 lieux incontournables dans le monde en 2024, adopte une approche de micro-conservation où chaque séjour contribue directement à la protection des rhinocéros, éléphants, cerfs de Duvaucel et des légendaires tigres du parc.

Versteckt auf einer abgelegenen Halbinsel zwischen zwei Armen des Karnali-Flusses hat uns das Burhan Wilderness Camp im Bardiya Nationalpark eines der unvergesslichsten Erlebnisse unserer Reisen beschert.
Schon bei unserer Ankunft waren wir fasziniert von der Stille des Dschungels – einer tiefen, fast heiligen Ruhe, unterbrochen nur vom fernen Brüllen der Bengaltiger bei Sonnenaufgang. Dieses luxuriöse Zeltcamp, von TIME Magazine 2024 zu einem der 100 Greatest Places der Welt gekürt, verfolgt einen Micro-Conservancy-Ansatz, bei dem jeder Aufenthalt direkt den Schutz von Nashörnern, Elefanten, Sumpfhirsch und den legendären Tigern des Parks unterstützt.
Unsere Tage vergingen zwischen geführten Buschwanderungen, Jeep-Safaris und stillen Momenten am Fluss. Jede Mahlzeit feierte das Land – lokal, biologisch und voller authentischer nepalesischer Aromen. Besonders berührend war das Wissen, dass unser Aufenthalt die Tharu-Gemeinschaft unterstützt und so sowohl Natur als auch Kultur bewahrt.
Es war mehr als ein Safari-Erlebnis – es fühlte sich an, als tauche man in die wilde Seele Nepals ein, eine Reise, die uns demütig und inspiriert zurückließ.

Day 1 - Burhan Wilderness Camp
Morning:
Upon your arrival at Nepalgunj Airport, a representative from Burhan Wilderness Camps will be present to welcome you. Following a brief introduction and refreshment, embark on a scenic drive towards Gulariya, where you'll visit the Black Buck Sanctuary.
Take time to explore this rare ecosystem and observe the endangered black bucks in their natural habitat. After your walk, enjoy a fresh, organic brunch at a local restaurant in Gulariya, where you'll get a taste of regional flavors and locally sourced produce.
Afternoon:
After brunch, continue your journey towards Burhan Wilderness Camps. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with refreshing welcome drinks and guided to your luxury tent. Take some time to settle in, relax, and soak in the peaceful wilderness atmosphere.
Evening:
As the sun begins to set, prepare for a magical sundowner experience. Head to a scenic spot near the river or open grassland and enjoy the golden hour with light snacks and drinks.
After sunset, return to camp where a delicious, hearty dinner awaits. Gather around the campfire (weather permitting) or simply unwind and enjoy the tranquility of the forest.
Day 2 - Burhan Wilderness Camp
Morning:
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Burhan Wilderness Camps. After breakfast, depart for Bardia National Park to begin your full-day jungle safari. Accompanied by expert naturalists, you'll explore the park's rich wildlife and natural beauty.
Afternoon:
Pause for a packed lunch at a carefully selected scenic spot within the park, immersed in the natural sounds of the wilderness. After a brief rest, continue your journey through diverse terrain, enhancing your chances of spotting a wide range of wildlife, including deer, monkeys, and, with some luck, elusive predators such as leopards or even the majestic Bengal tiger.
Evening:
After an exciting safari, visit a traditional Tharu home to experience their unique culture firsthand. Savor a specially prepared feast of authentic Tharu cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients. Immerse yourself in the village’s vibrant traditions with activities like folk dances, music, and crafting.
Enjoy the warmth of Tharu hospitality before returning to camp. End your day by the fire, sharing stories under the starlit sky.
Day 3 - Hotel Opera - Shuklaphanta
Morning:
Begin your day with an early breakfast at Burhan Wilderness Camps. After breakfast, depart for Shuklaphanta, a scenic drive with a special stop en route at Ghoda Ghodi Lake Bird Sanctuary.
Enjoy the tranquil surroundings and observe a variety of bird species that inhabit this protected wetland area. Continue your journey to Hotel Opera in Shuklaphanta.
Afternoon:
Arrive at Hotel Opera and check in. Lunch will be served at the hotel, followed by a short break to refresh and prepare for the afternoon activities.
In the early afternoon, depart for a half-day jeep safari in Shuklaphanta National Park, known for its expansive grasslands, swamp deer, and diverse birdlife.
Evening:
Return to the hotel by late evening. Take some time to unwind before attending a short briefing session about the next day's plans. End your day with a relaxing dinner at the hotel and settle in for a comfortable overnight stay.
Day 4 - Hotel Opera - Shuklaphanta
Morning:
Your day will begin with an early breakfast at the hotel, followed by a departure for Shuklaphanta National Park.
Our team will ensure you are comfortably prepared for a full day of exploration in one of Nepal's most pristine and wildlife-rich reserves.
Afternoon:
Enjoy a full-day safari within the park, where you will have the opportunity to observe a diverse range of wildlife in their natural habitat.
A packed lunch will be provided during the safari, allowing you to dine amidst the tranquility of the jungle without interrupting your experience.
Evening:
You will return to the hotel in the early evening, where you can take time to relax and refresh after your adventure-filled day.
A hearty dinner will be served at the hotel. The rest of the evening is at your leisure to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Day 5 - Hotel Opera - Shuklaphanta
Morning:
Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel.
After check-out, our representative will escort you for your return journey to Dhangadi Airport in time for your onward travel.

Jour 2 – Burhan Wilderness Camp
Matin :
Commencez la journée par un petit-déjeuner complet au camp. Ensuite, partez pour le parc national de Bardia pour un safari d’une journée entière. Accompagné de naturalistes experts, explorez la richesse de la faune et la beauté naturelle du parc.
Après-midi :
Faites une pause pour un déjeuner pique-nique dans un lieu pittoresque choisi avec soin, au cœur des sons apaisants de la nature. Après un bref repos, poursuivez l’exploration à travers des terrains variés, augmentant vos chances d’apercevoir une faune diversifiée, y compris cerfs, singes et, avec un peu de chance, des prédateurs discrets comme le léopard ou le majestueux tigre du Bengale.
Soirée :
Après ce safari passionnant, visitez un foyer traditionnel Tharu pour découvrir leur culture unique. Dégustez un festin de cuisine authentique Tharu, préparée avec des ingrédients locaux et frais. Participez aux traditions du village à travers danses, musique et artisanat.
Profitez de la chaleur de l’accueil Tharu avant de retourner au camp. Terminez la journée autour du feu, partageant des histoires sous le ciel étoilé.
Jour 3 – Hôtel Opera, Shuklaphanta
Matin :
Petit-déjeuner tôt au Burhan Wilderness Camp, puis départ pour Shuklaphanta, avec un arrêt spécial en route au Ghoda Ghodi Lake Bird Sanctuary.
Profitez du calme des lieux et observez les nombreuses espèces d’oiseaux qui peuplent cette zone humide protégée. Poursuivez ensuite votre route jusqu’à l’Hôtel Opera à Shuklaphanta.
Après-midi :
Arrivée à l’hôtel et enregistrement. Déjeuner servi sur place, suivi d’une courte pause pour vous rafraîchir et préparer vos activités de l’après-midi.
Départ pour un safari en jeep de quelques heures dans le parc national de Shuklaphanta, réputé pour ses vastes plaines, ses cerfs des marais et sa diversité d’oiseaux.
Soirée :
Retour à l’hôtel en fin de journée. Prenez un moment pour vous détendre avant de participer à un court briefing sur le programme du lendemain. Dîner relaxant à l’hôtel et nuit confortable.
Jour 4 – Hôtel Opera, Shuklaphanta
Matin :
Petit-déjeuner tôt à l’hôtel, puis départ pour une journée complète dans le parc national de Shuklaphanta.
L’équipe veillera à ce que vous soyez confortablement préparé pour explorer l’une des réserves les plus préservées et riches en faune du Népal.
Après-midi :
Profitez d’un safari d’une journée entière pour observer la faune dans son habitat naturel.
Un déjeuner pique-nique sera fourni pendant le safari, vous permettant de savourer votre repas au cœur de la jungle sans interrompre votre expérience.
Soirée :
Retour à l’hôtel en début de soirée pour vous détendre et vous rafraîchir après cette journée pleine d’aventures.
Dîner copieux servi à l’hôtel. Le reste de la soirée est libre pour profiter de la tranquillité des lieux.
Jour 5 – Hôtel Opera, Shuklaphanta

Petit-déjeuner matinal à l’hôtel.
Après le check-out, notre représentant vous accompagnera jusqu’à l’aéroport de Dhangadi pour votre voyage de retour ou la suite de votre périple.
Tag 1 - Burhan Wilderness Camp
Morgen:
Bei Ankunft am Flughafen Nepalgunj werdet ihr von einem Vertreter des Burhan Wilderness Camps empfangen. Nach einer kurzen Einführung und Erfrischung beginnt die Fahrt nach Gulariya, wo ihr das Black Buck Sanctuary besucht.
Erkundet das seltene Ökosystem und beobachtet die bedrohten Black Bucks in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung. Anschließend wartet ein frisches, organisches Brunch in einem lokalen Restaurant in Gulariya, mit regionalen Aromen und Produkten aus der Umgebung.
Nachmittag:
Weiterfahrt zum Burhan Wilderness Camp. Bei der Ankunft werdet ihr mit erfrischenden Getränken begrüßt und zu eurem luxuriösen Zelt begleitet. Zeit zum Entspannen und Eintauchen in die friedliche Atmosphäre der Wildnis.
Abend:

Day 2 - Burhan Wilderness Camp
Morgen:
Reichhaltiges Frühstück im Camp. Danach startet die Ganztagessafari im Bardiya Nationalpark. Begleitet von erfahrenen Naturführern erkundet ihr die reiche Tierwelt und die Natur des Parks.
Nachmittag:
Picknick an einem landschaftlich schönen Ort mitten in der Wildnis. Danach Weiterfahrt durch unterschiedliche Landschaften – mit etwas Glück entdeckt ihr Rehe, Affen, Leoparden oder sogar einen majestätischen Bengaltiger.
Abend:
Besuch eines traditionellen Tharu-Hauses mit Einblicken in die Kultur, lokale Speisen und Aktivitäten wie Volkstänze, Musik und Handwerk. Danach Rückkehr zum Camp, Lagerfeuer und Sternenhimmel genießen.
Tag 3 - Hotel Opera - Shuklaphanta
Morgen:
Frühstück im Camp. Fahrt nach Shuklaphanta mit Zwischenstopp am Ghoda Ghodi Lake Bird Sanctuary. Beobachtung verschiedener Vogelarten. Weiterfahrt zum Hotel Opera in Shuklaphanta.
Nachmittag:
Check-in, Mittagessen und kurze Pause. Danach halbtägige Jeep-Safari im Shuklaphanta Nationalpark, bekannt für Grasland, Sumpfhirsch und vielfältige Vogelwelt.
Abend:
Rückkehr zum Hotel, kurze Briefing-Session zum nächsten Tag, Abendessen und Übernachtung.

While it’s possible to withdraw cash in the nearby town of Thakurdwara, ATMs can be unreliable or have withdrawal limits. We recommend bringing sufficient cash from Kathmandu to cover tips, local expenses, and off-site purchases.

No. Our tented accommodations are not operational during four months in monsoons
between June and September. Additionally, we only set up our tents a day before the
booking date so please make sure to book in advance.
CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & TRAVEL INSURANCE:
Once bookings have been confirmed, all cancellations will follow the terms and conditions of our local suppliers and service providers. Please note that many partners require advance payments to secure availability, and their refund policies may vary. We will always do our best to recover any refundable amounts wherever possible, but some services may be fully non-refundable depending on supplier conditions.
We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes. This ensures peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

WEATHER
For wildlife enthusiasts: February to June offer prime time for spotting tigers and
rhinos near waterholes as the dry season ends.
April, May and June are hot and humid, best for seasoned explorers who tolerate warm weather.
For weather and comfort: October to March has mild temperatures ideal for families and enjoying outdoor activities.

Bien qu’il soit possible de retirer de l’argent liquide dans la ville voisine de Thakurdwara, les distributeurs peuvent être peu fiables ou limiter les montants retirés.
Nous recommandons donc d’apporter suffisamment d’argent depuis Katmandou pour les pourboires, les dépenses locales et les achats hors site.

SOMMES-NOUS TOUJOURS OUVERTS ? :
Non. Nos tentes ne sont pas opérationnelles pendant quatre mois de mousson, de juin à septembre. De plus, les tentes ne sont installées qu’un jour avant la date de réservation, alors veillez à réserver à l’avance.
ANNULATION, REMBOURSEMENT & ASSURANCE VOYAGE :
Une fois les réservations confirmées, toute annulation sera soumise aux conditions générales de nos prestataires locaux. Veuillez noter que de nombreux partenaires exigent des paiements anticipés pour garantir la disponibilité, et leurs politiques de remboursement peuvent varier. Nous ferons toujours notre possible pour récupérer les montants remboursables lorsque cela est possible, mais certains services peuvent être totalement non remboursables selon les conditions des fournisseurs.

CLIMAT
Pour les passionnés de faune sauvage : de février à juin, c’est la période idéale pour observer tigres et rhinocéros près des points d’eau, à la fin de la saison sèche.
Pour les amateurs de chaleur : avril, mai et juin sont chauds et humides, parfaits pour les voyageurs expérimentés qui tolèrent bien les températures élevées.
Pour le confort et la météo agréable : d’octobre à mars, les températures sont douces, idéales pour les familles et pour profiter pleinement des activités en plein air.

Wir empfehlen, genügend Bargeld aus Kathmandu mitzunehmen, um Trinkgelder, lokale Ausgaben und Einkäufe außerhalb des Camps zu decken.Bei Burhan Wilderness Camps werden Kartenzahlungen akzeptiert.
SIND DIE ANLAGEN IMMER GEÖFFNET?
Nein. Unsere Zeltunterkünfte sind während der vier Monsunmonate von Juni bis September nicht in Betrieb. Außerdem werden die Zelte erst einen Tag vor dem gebuchten Termin aufgebaut, daher bitten wir um frühzeitige Buchung.
GEFÜHRTE TOUREN:
Geführte Touren werden in der Regel gemeinsam mit anderen Gästen durchgeführt. So hast du die Möglichkeit, andere Reisende kennenzulernen und die Aktivität in einer kleinen Gruppe zu teilen.
Wenn eine private Tour inkludiert ist oder als Upgrade verfügbar ist, wird dies in deinem Reisehandbuch deutlich angegeben oder kann auf Anfrage organisiert werden (vorbehaltlich Verfügbarkeit und zusätzlicher Kosten).

WETTER
Für Wildtierbegeisterte: Von Februar bis Juni ist die beste Zeit, um Tiger und Nashörner in der Nähe von Wasserlöchern zu beobachten, da die Trockenzeit zu Ende geht.
April, Mai und Juni sind heiß und feucht, am besten geeignet für erfahrene Reisende, die warme Temperaturen vertragen.
Für Wetter und Komfort: Oktober bis März bietet milde Temperaturen, ideal für Familien und Outdoor-Aktivitäten.
