In Vietnam, cash is essential for taxis, small restaurants, and local purchases, though credit cards are accepted in higher-end hotels, modern cafes, and international chains in major cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. ATMs are widely available, making it easy to withdraw Vietnamese Dong when needed.

In Cambodia, the U.S. dollar is the most commonly used currency in tourist areas such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, menus and prices are often displayed in dollars, and most ATMs dispense USD. Small change is usually given in Cambodian Riel, so it’s useful to carry a mix of both currencies for smaller purchases. While credit cards are accepted in major hotels and upscale restaurants, cash remains preferred for daily transactions.
