Should you cancel your Asia trip?

What has actually changed

A few weeks ago, I said: Don’t cancel your Asia trip.

And I still stand by that.

Asia is operating at a high level. Demand is strong, many destinations are busy, and travel is running smoothly. What has changed is not the destination, but how you get there.

And that is exactly what currently determines whether your trip feels smooth or unnecessarily complicated.

Asia 2026: The destination works

Why the destination is not the problem

Asia is not rebuilding – it is fully active again.

Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong remain among the most in-demand travel destinations worldwide. Infrastructure is stable, demand is high, and many flights are well booked.

In practice, it is very clear right now: the challenge is not the destination, but the journey to get there.

Flight routes in 2026: The key factor

Why your route determines your trip

If you want to dive deeper into current flight options, you can find the most reliable routes in my previous article.

Gulf hubs like Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi are currently less predictable than usual. If you are flexible, alternative routes are often the better choice.

Direct flights from Europe to Asia are currently the most stable option because they reduce risk and make travel more predictable. Connections via Singapore or Hong Kong are also working reliably, while Istanbul and Amsterdam remain solid alternatives.

Airlines like Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific are actively expanding their networks and strengthening these routes. Right now, a simple and clear connection is usually the better decision.

Oceania is also still accessible, as long as the route is chosen carefully. Especially on long-haul trips to Australia or New Zealand, it becomes very clear how important a clean and stable connection really is.

Should you cancel your trip to Asia right now? What you need to understand first

Flights via Dubai, Doha, or Abu Dhabi

What this means if you already booked

If you have already booked a flight via one of these hubs, the most important thing to know is this: these routes are not gone, they are just less stable than usual. At the same time, the situation is gradually improving. Airlines have a strong interest in stabilizing their key routes and are already increasing capacity again.

In most cases, an existing ticket is not a problem. Changes can happen, but they are usually manageable.

In practice, many flights are still operating, sometimes with adjustments, but rarely fully canceled. The real question is not whether you booked the wrong flight, but how flexible you are if something changes.

If you have already booked, the most important thing is to stay calm. Check your flight status regularly and avoid canceling too quickly. In many cases, adjusting your existing booking is the better option.

A realistic look at prices

Why “cheap” is no longer the right question

Higher prices are currently not an exception, but the reality on stable routes.

The better question is not whether a flight is cheap, but whether it is reliable. If you book smart now, you secure stable options. If you wait, you risk higher prices and fewer choices.

For flexible travellers: Central Asia as a real alternative

Why this region is especially interesting right now

For many, Central Asia is currently the better trip.

Countries like Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, or Kazakhstan offer a much calmer and more predictable experience. Getting there is more stable, logistics are simpler, and at the same time, the experiences are often more intense than in classic destinations.

Conclusion

Think flexibly and book smart

Asia is open. Demand is high. The options are there.

What has changed is not the destination, but the decision before it.

If you are traveling to Asia in 2026, your flight route will matter more than your hotel. And that is exactly the part most people underestimate.
