WHY WE LOVE BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE

Our time at the world-renowned Borneo Rainforest Lodge was truly one of the most unique and unforgettable experiences we’ve ever had.

Hidden deep within the ancient Danum Valley, surrounded by untouched jungle, it felt like stepping into another world. Exploring the forest alongside our incredible guide, Alex, was nothing short of magical.

We witnessed gibbons calling through the canopy, red leaf monkeys leaping gracefully between branches, hornbills soaring overhead, and the majestic orangutans swinging freely in their natural home. Every day left us in awe of the wildlife and the raw, untamed beauty of the rainforest.

Each trek revealed something new, a hidden waterfall, the soft glow of the forest at sunrise, or a rare encounter that took our breath away. Returning to the lodge after each adventure was pure comfort and serenity. The warm hospitality, exquisite meals, and peaceful atmosphere created the perfect retreat after days spent exploring.

This journey touched us deeply. It offered a rare connection to nature and a reminder of how truly special and fragile these wild places are, an experience that will stay with us forever.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT:

International flights can be arranged upon request, subject to availability. A 10% service fee will apply to cover handling and booking costs.

  • VISA:

Visa requirements differ depending on your nationality. We strongly recommend verifying the latest entry regulations with official immigration authorities before you travel. Roxy Travel Plan can provide general guidance or advice upon request; however, we cannot take responsibility for visa approvals, rejections, or changes in immigration policies.

  • CASH/ATM:

Malaysia is generally more card-friendly than many neighboring countries, and this also applies to Sabah and Borneo. Major hotels, eco-lodges, and tour operators typically accept credit and debit cards, including at the world-renowned Borneo Rainforest Lodge, which offers the convenience of card payments for your stay and on-site expenses.

That said, cash is still essential in more remote areas and local villages throughout Borneo. Small eateries, local markets, and community-run activities often operate on a cash-only basis, and ATMs can be limited once you leave larger towns like Lahad Datu or Sandakan. It’s best to carry some Malaysian Ringgit for incidentals, tips, or roadside purchases, especially when traveling deeper into the rainforest.

  • GUIDED TOURS:

Guided tours are typically conducted on a shared basis, meaning other travelers may join the same experience. This allows you to meet other guests and share the activity as part of a small group.

If a private tour is included or available as an upgrade, it will be clearly indicated in your itinerary or can be arranged upon request (subject to availability and additional cost).

  • CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & TRAVEL INSURANCE:

Once bookings have been confirmed, all cancellations will follow the terms and conditions of our local suppliers and service providers. Please note that many partners require advance payments to secure availability, and their refund policies may vary. We will always do our best to recover any refundable amounts wherever possible, but some services may be fully non-refundable depending on supplier conditions.

We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes. This ensures peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

TRAVEL GUIDE BOOK

You’ll receive a comprehensive Travel Guide Book in PDF format with all your confirmed bookings, key travel information, and a personalized day-by-day itinerary designed specifically for you.

The guide also includes practical tips to help your trip go smoothly, along with must-see locations, local eateries, hand-picked café recommendations we have personally tried and loved.

We will even connect you with reliable local taxi drivers, guides, and companies we have met during our own travels and fully trust.

WEATHER

For the best balance of clear weather, comfort, and wildlife activity, plan your visit between March and October. But if you want to see the rainforest at its most lush and alive, the wet season also has its own wild charm.

INTERNET & SIM CARDS

SIM cards are available almost everywhere in Malaysia, including directly at the airport upon arrival. If you prefer not to buy a physical SIM card, I recommend using an eSIM from Airalo — you’ll find more detailed information about this option, along with a 10% discount, in my Travel Guide Book.

Within Danum Valley, however, mobile connection is extremely limited or nearly non-existent due to the remote jungle environment. At the Borneo Rainforest Lodge, guests can still enjoy basic internet access in the main lodge restaurant and rest area, thanks to Starlink satellite connectivity. This allows you to stay in touch or share a few highlights of your journey, though speeds can vary and streaming or heavy uploads are not recommended.
