━━ THE JOURNEY
Why this country left a lasting impression on us

I spent two months travelling through Mongolia. On horseback, by jeep and by motorbike. And I have rarely felt so free.
Mongolia is vastness. You drive for hours across the steppe without meeting another car. The sky is so big that it feels as if the world never ends. A few white gers stand on the horizon, a herd of horses passes by, and otherwise there is only the wind.
You understand this country best from the back of a horse. That is how the nomads have travelled for centuries: slowly, close to nature and open to anyone who passes by. More often than you would imagine, you find yourself sitting in a ger with a bowl of milk tea.
By jeep and by motorbike I learned that a road here is often just a track in the grass. The long drives are part of it. They are not lost time, but exactly the moments when Mongolia takes hold of you.
And in the evening, when the sun sinks behind the hills, the stove crackles in the ger and more stars shine above you than you have ever seen, you know why I love this country so much. For me, Mongolia is the land of freedom. And this is exactly the feeling I want to share with you.

OPTION
One Way by Plane · More Time Instead of a Long Drive Back
Would you rather not cover the whole distance overland? Then at the end of your time in the Gobi you fly from Dalanzadgad straight to Ulaanbaatar instead of driving back in two stages via Tsagaan Suvarga. You can use the time you gain just as you like:
More Time in the Gobi
You stay one more night at the dunes of Khongoryn Els and enjoy the silence of the desert without rushing.
Wild Horses in Khustai National Park
From Ulaanbaatar you drive to Khustai National Park, where the Takhi, the world's last truly wild horses, once again roam freely across the steppe.
A Shorter Journey
You shorten the journey by one day and still experience the north, central Mongolia and the Gobi.
The route also works in reverse: you fly from Ulaanbaatar to the Gobi at the start and travel back north overland. Flights depend on the current schedule. We are happy to give you the price for this option on request.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
PLAN AHEAD:
Mongolia’s travel window is short, and summer tours always sell out fast. To make sure you don’t miss this incredible experience, we encourage you to book early.
During middle of July 09/14JUL there are exceptional pricing conditions due Naadam Games in Ulan Bator. Why rates for that time are on request.
INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT:
International flights can be arranged upon request, subject to availability. A 10% service fee will apply to cover handling and booking costs.
DOMESTIC FLIGHT (OPTION):
If you choose the option with a flight, we book the domestic flight between Dalanzadgad and Ulaanbaatar for you. Domestic flights often have a lower baggage allowance than international flights, and flight times can change at short notice. We will keep you informed about the current conditions in good time.
VISA:
Visa requirements differ depending on your nationality. We strongly recommend verifying the latest entry regulations with official immigration authorities before you travel.
CASH/ATM:
Mongolia is still largely a cash-based country, especially outside the capital. In Ulaanbaatar, ATMs are widely available and most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops accept credit or debit cards. However, once you venture into rural areas — particularly during expeditions around Lake Khovsgol, the Orkhon Valley, or the Gobi Desert — cash becomes essential.
Many guesthouses, local eateries, and small vendors operate on a cash-only basis, and ATMs are scarce or nonexistent. It’s best to withdraw sufficient Mongolian Tugrik (MNT) before leaving the city and carry small notes for everyday purchases or tips.
CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & TRAVEL INSURANCE:
Once bookings have been confirmed, all cancellations will follow the terms and conditions of our local suppliers and service providers. Please note that many partners require advance payments to secure availability, and their refund policies may vary. We will always do our best to recover any refundable amounts wherever possible, but some services may be fully non-refundable depending on supplier conditions.
We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes. This ensures peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
MONGOLIA SPECIFIC INFORMATION
FOOD & DRIVING:
Please note: Mongolia’s cuisine is largely meat-based. Vegetarian meals can be arranged on request, though options may be more limited due to the difficulty of sourcing fresh produce in remote areas.
Please be aware that travel times in Mongolia can be long, and some roads are unpaved or rugged. Extended days spent in vehicles are sometimes unavoidable due to the vast distances and the nature of the terrain. This is part of the authentic experience of exploring Mongolia’s remote wilderness.
GER CAMP:
In the ger camps you sleep in traditional gers with beds and a stove. Showers and toilets are usually in a shared building, and electricity is often only available at certain times. The night with the nomadic family is simpler, but all the more authentic.
CLOTHING:
Even in summer the nights get cool, and at Khuvsgul Lake sometimes even cold. Pack warm layers, a windproof jacket, sun protection and sturdy shoes.
TRAVEL GUIDE BOOK
You’ll receive a comprehensive Travel Guide Book in PDF format with all your confirmed bookings, key travel information, and a personalized day-by-day itinerary designed specifically for you.
The guide also includes practical tips to help your trip go smoothly, along with must-see locations, local eateries, hand-picked café recommendations we have personally tried and loved.
We will even connect you with reliable local taxi drivers, guides, and companies we have met during our own travels and fully trust.
WEATHER
Mongolia’s nickname is no exaggeration. With more than 260 sunny days a year, the skies are vast, high, and impossibly blue.
The best time to visit is summer, from June to September, when temperatures are at their warmest. Expect warm days (20–30°C), though nights can get chilly, often dropping below 5°C, even in the South Gobi, where the desert experiences cooler nights despite its daytime heat.
INTERNET & SIM CARDS
SIM cards are available almost everywhere in Mongolia, including directly at the airport upon arrival. If you prefer not to purchase a physical SIM card, you can easily use an eSIM from Airalo — you’ll find more details and a 10% discount in our Travel Guide Book.
Please Note: Across most of Mongolia, network coverage is limited or often nonexistent. This remoteness offers a rare chance to fully disconnect, leaving behind screens and signals to reconnect with the silence of nature, the open skies, and the vast, untamed beauty of the Mongolian wilderness.
