━━ THE JOURNEY

Why this country left a lasting impression on us

DSC_5172.jpg

We spent two full months in Kyrgyzstan during the summer of 2025, and this journey brings together the moments that stayed with us the most.

Kyrgyzstan speaks to the part of you that craves freedom and space. It’s a country where the horizon feels endless, where jagged, snow-capped peaks rise straight out of green valleys, and where silence isn’t empty, it’s grounding. Nature here isn’t something you visit; it shapes daily life.

Some of our most powerful memories were made on horseback. Riding toward Kel-Suu Lake & Song Kul, crossing high alpine pastures and narrow trails once used by nomads, we felt completely disconnected from the modern world. Just the sound of hooves, wind, and distant mountains. Time slowed down, and the journey itself became the destination.

Then there was Ala-Kul Lake, a hike that pushed us physically and mentally. Steep climbs, changing weather, burning legs, and moments where the trail felt endless. But reaching the lake made every step worth it. The raw beauty, the intense colors, and the feeling of accomplishment standing there are impossible to forget. It reminded us why we travel in the first place.

What touched us just as deeply was the nomadic hospitality. Nights spent in yurts by remote lakes felt incredibly intimate. We were welcomed without hesitation, shared meals around low tables, exchanged stories through gestures and smiles, and laughed despite not sharing a common language. The warmth was genuine, simple, honest, and deeply human.

Song-Kul and Issyk-Kul left their own quiet mark on us. Vast, open landscapes where herds roam freely, eagles glide overhead, mornings are crisp and still, and evenings glow in soft, golden light. Moments where you sit in silence, not needing anything more.

Kyrgyzstan isn’t polished or predictable, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s wild, untamed, and profoundly grounding. Traveling here reminded us how it feels to be fully present, deeply connected to nature, and truly alive.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT:

International flights can be arranged upon request, subject to availability. A 10% service fee will apply to cover handling and booking costs.

  • VISA:

Visa requirements differ depending on your nationality. We strongly recommend verifying the latest entry regulations with official immigration authorities before you travel.

  • CASH/ATM:

Kyrgyzstan is gradually becoming more card-friendly, but cash remains essential for most everyday transactions.

In major cities like Bishkek and Osh, you can use credit or debit cards at higher-end hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, and some cafés. However, smaller guesthouses, local eateries, bazaars, and transport services still prefer cash. It’s also worth noting that international cards may not always work reliably, so it’s best to carry enough Kyrgyzstani Som (KGS) for daily expenses.

ATMs are widely available in city centers, shopping areas, and airports, but they can occasionally run out of cash or have limits on withdrawals. In rural areas and mountain regions—such as around Issyk-Kul or trekking destinations—cash is almost always required, so withdrawing enough in advance is recommended.

While Kyrgyzstan is developing its banking infrastructure, travelers will find that using a mix of both card and cash ensures a smooth experience across the country.

  • CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & TRAVEL INSURANCE:

Once bookings have been confirmed, all cancellations will follow the terms and conditions of our local suppliers and service providers. Please note that many partners require advance payments to secure availability, and their refund policies may vary. We will always do our best to recover any refundable amounts wherever possible, but some services may be fully non-refundable depending on supplier conditions.

We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes. This ensures peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

TRAVEL GUIDE BOOK

You’ll receive a comprehensive Travel Guide Book in PDF format with all your confirmed bookings, key travel information, and a personalized day-by-day itinerary designed specifically for you.

The guide also includes practical tips to help your trip go smoothly, along with must-see locations, local eateries, hand-picked café recommendations we have personally tried and loved.

We will even connect you with reliable local taxi drivers, guides, and companies we have met during our own travels and fully trust.

WEATHER

The best time to visit Kyrgyzstan is from June to September, when the weather is warm and ideal for exploring its mountains, lakes, and nomadic landscapes. During these months, temperatures are comfortable, high mountain passes are open, and the famous jailoos (summer pastures) are full of life. It’s the perfect time for trekking, horseback riding, and visiting places like Issyk-Kul and Song-Kul.

Summer (July to August) is peak season, especially around Issyk-Kul, where temperatures are warm but not overwhelmingly hot. In the mountains, conditions are excellent for outdoor activities, though popular areas can be busier with both locals and tourists.

Spring (April to May) can be beautiful in lower regions, with blooming landscapes and mild temperatures, but higher-altitude areas may still be inaccessible due to snow. It’s a quieter time to visit cities like Bishkek and Osh, though weather can be unpredictable.

Autumn (September to October) is another great time to visit, with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and stunning golden landscapes in the mountains. It’s also a good season for cultural experiences and festivals.

Winter (November to March) brings cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, especially in mountainous regions. While not ideal for general travel, it’s a great time for skiing and winter sports in places like Karakol.

Overall, summer and early autumn are the most pleasant times to experience Kyrgyzstan’s dramatic scenery, nomadic culture, and outdoor adventures.

INTERNET & SIM CARDS

SIM cards are available in big cities, including directly at the airport upon arrival.

If you prefer not to buy a physical SIM card, I recommend using an eSIM from Airalo you’ll find more detailed information about this option in my Travel Guide Book including a 10% discount on their services.
