━━ THE JOURNEY

Why this country left a lasting impression on us

DSC_5172.jpg

Inspired by our own journey through Mongolia, this 19-day wilderness expedition takes you deep into the country’s untamed north. Spend 7 unforgettable days on horseback, riding along the shores of Lake Khovsgol, through ancient forests, and across mountain passes above 1,500 m. Evenings are spent beneath vast starry skies, gathered around the campfire, sharing stories and the quiet magic of the steppe.

We fell in love with Lake Khovsgol for its sense of pure serenity, a vast expanse of crystal-blue water framed by pine-covered hills and endless open skies. Life here moves at nature’s rhythm, untouched and timeless. It’s a place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel completely connected to the wilderness around you.

Experience the Naadam Festival in Mongolia with two full days immersed in the country’s most iconic celebration, where wrestling, horse racing, and archery bring centuries-old nomadic traditions vividly to life. Joining Naadam as part of this journey offers a rare chance to witness local pride, color, and energy in an authentic setting, far from mass tourism.

You’ll stay in tents and traditional gers, guided by an experienced Mongolian team with wranglers, a support vehicle, and a camp cook. Along the way, meet Tsaatan reindeer herders and nomadic families whose lives remain deeply tied to the land — a true immersion into Mongolia’s wild soul.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT:

International flights can be arranged upon request, subject to availability. A 10% service fee will apply to cover handling and booking costs.

  • VISA:

Visa requirements differ depending on your nationality. We strongly recommend verifying the latest entry regulations with official immigration authorities before you travel.

  • CASH/ATM:

Mongolia is still largely a cash-based country, especially outside the capital. In Ulaanbaatar, ATMs are widely available and most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops accept credit or debit cards. However, once you venture into rural areas — particularly during expeditions around Lake Khovsgol, the Orkhon Valley, or the Gobi Desert — cash becomes essential. Many guesthouses, local eateries, and small vendors operate on a cash-only basis, and ATMs are scarce or nonexistent. It’s best to withdraw sufficient Mongolian Tugrik (MNT) before leaving the city and carry small notes for everyday purchases or tips.

  • CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & TRAVEL INSURANCE:

Once bookings have been confirmed, all cancellations will follow the terms and conditions of our local suppliers and service providers. Please note that many partners require advance payments to secure availability, and their refund policies may vary. We will always do our best to recover any refundable amounts wherever possible, but some services may be fully non-refundable depending on supplier conditions.

We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes. This ensures peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

MONGOLIA SPECIFIC INFORMATION
  • WILD CAMPING:

On this extraordinary journey, we’ll venture deep into Mongolia’s most remote and untouched regions—where wild camping isn’t just part of the experience, but a true highlight. Thanks to Mongolia’s "right to roam," we can pitch our tents wherever the views are most breathtaking. With virtually no light pollution, clear skies, and elevations above 1500m, it’s a stargazer’s paradise.

As night falls, gather around a crackling campfire, where our camp chef will prepare delicious meals beneath the open sky. Share stories with fellow adventurers, watch the Milky Way stretch across the heavens, and drift off to sleep to the sounds of the wild. Tents are provided but for the full experience, we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag or roll mat.

  • STAYING WILD:

In the vast and untamed Mongolian countryside, modern comforts give way to authenticity and that’s part of the magic. We live simply, drawing fresh water from rivers and lakes for washing. It can be heated over the fire for a warm rinse or even used for a quick laundry wash. Feel like a dip? Go ahead! Just remember to use only biodegradable, eco-friendly soaps to protect these pristine waters.

Many lakes and rivers here are so clean, they meet UK drinking water standards but we recommend boiling or filtering any water you drink. Bottled water will also be available throughout the tour to keep you safe and hydrated.

  • RIDING EXPERIENCE:

This journey leads you through breathtakingly varied terrain from gentle lakeside meadows to hidden mountain trails and high alpine passes. Never ridden before? No worries. All you need is a sense of adventure and a willingness to try. Our skilled nomadic guides will ride alongside you, offering support and sharing their deep knowledge of the land and horses. Each day, we’ll cover 20–30 km over about six hours a comfortable pace for beginners. If you need a break, a support vehicle is always nearby. For experienced riders, there are plenty of chances to break away, canter through the open landscape, and explore deeper into Mongolia’s wild beauty with an extra guide by your side.

  • FOOD & DRIVING:

Please note: While we provide hearty and filling meals throughout the journey, some dishes may be simpler due to the remoteness of the region. Vegetarian options are available upon request, though choices may be more limited given the logistical challenges of sourcing fresh produce in rural Mongolia.

Please be aware that travel times in Mongolia can be long, and some roads are unpaved or rugged. Extended days spent in vehicles are sometimes unavoidable due to the vast distances and the nature of the terrain. This is part of the authentic experience of exploring Mongolia’s remote wilderness.

TRAVEL GUIDE BOOK

You’ll receive a comprehensive Travel Guide Book in PDF format with all your confirmed bookings, key travel information, and a personalized day-by-day itinerary designed specifically for you.

The guide also includes practical tips to help your trip go smoothly, along with must-see locations, local eateries, hand-picked café recommendations we have personally tried and loved.

We will even connect you with reliable local taxi drivers, guides, and companies we have met during our own travels and fully trust.

WEATHER

June marks the start of summer in Mongolia, one of the best times to visit the country.

Days are generally warm and sunny, with average temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C in Ulaanbaatar and central regions, while the Gobi Desert can reach 30°C or higher. In the north and at higher altitudes, such as around Lake Khovsgol, temperatures are cooler — often between 10°C and 20°C, especially in the mornings and evenings.

Occasional showers or thunderstorms can occur, bringing freshness to the landscape and helping wildflowers bloom across the steppes.

Overall, June offers long daylight hours, clear skies, and vibrant green scenery, making it ideal for outdoor adventures, horseback riding, and cultural festivals.

INTERNET & SIM CARDS

SIM cards are available almost everywhere in Mongolia, including directly at the airport upon arrival. If you prefer not to purchase a physical SIM card, you can easily use an eSIM from Airalo — you’ll find more details and a 10% discount in our Travel Guide Book.

During the horseback expedition around Lake Khovsgol, network coverage is extremely limited or often nonexistent. This remote region offers a rare chance to fully disconnect, leaving behind screens and signals to reconnect instead with the silence of nature, the rhythm of your horse, and the vast beauty of Mongolia’s wilderness.
