SIGNATURE GROUP TOURS – CURATED, AUTHENTIC & FREE-SPIRITED

This Signature Group Tour is designed for travelers who want to share an unforgettable journey with like-minded explorers. You’ll travel as part of a small group, following a thoughtfully curated itinerary that blends comfort, adventure, and cultural immersion.

Every detail, from transfers and accommodations to guided experiences, has been carefully planned, allowing you to relax and enjoy the journey without worrying about logistics. Some moments are purposefully left open, giving you the freedom to explore, connect, or simply soak in your surroundings. Our travel guide, inspired by our own experiences, offers tips and personal recommendations to help you make the most of each destination.

WHY WE LOVE MONGOLIA

We fell in love with Mongolia for its sense of vastness, purity, and freedom, a place where horizons seem endless and silence speaks louder than words.

Traveling here feels like stepping back in time, into a world still ruled by nature’s rhythm. The landscapes shift from golden steppes and forested mountains to mirror-like lakes and rolling dunes, each one untouched and alive. But beyond the scenery, it’s the Mongolian spirit that moved us most, the kindness of nomadic families who welcome strangers as friends, the quiet strength of horsemen guiding their herds, and the deep respect people hold for the land.

Out here, under skies so wide they make you feel small, we found a rare kind of peace, the feeling of truly being present, connected, and free.

Day 1
Airport transfer to your hotel & relax. Our UB Guest House is a 2-minute walk from the Gandan Monastery, 15 minutes to the state department store, and 30 minutes to the city centre and Government Buildings, which you can explore at your own leisure. That evening, once everyone has arrived, we will go over some information for the Trip

Day 2
Today we drive to the Orkhon Valley to start our horse trekking adventure. To avoid Ulaanbaatar’s traffic, we leave early at 7:00. The drive takes 7–8 hours, with 6 hours on paved roads and 1–2 hours off-road. On the way, we’ll enjoy vast landscapes and stop for photos and a short camel ride in the Mini Gobi, a smaller version of the Gobi Desert located 100 km south. These two-humped camels are unique to Mongolia. Afterwards, we continue to the UNESCO-listed Orkhon Valley, where our unforgettable journey on horseback begins.
Day 3 Horse Trekking
Mongolia is the land of the horse and there is no better way to explore this country than in the saddle. Today we will meet with local herders and their horses to start our adventure. Either at the start of the ride or during the first day we will visit the herder’s Ger camp, where they will welcome us in and show us their home. Depending on the family we may also be fed and there is a good chance you will get your first taste of a traditional Mongolia BBQ.

After meeting the nomadic family we will start riding deeper into the Khangai mountain park. This area is known for its lush forest-steppe landscapes and is the source of many large rivers like the Orkon. At this time of year, many of the trees will be turning a vibrant goldy yellow which makes the woodland sections all the more beautiful. Over the next few days, we will be exploring this area, Wild Camping as we go and enjoying the freedoms this landscape offers.

Day 4 Horse Trekking
Experience Mongolia like a true nomad as you saddle up and ride across the vast steppe. We will be joined by our nomadic host who will take care of the horses and teach us how to ride like a true nomad on our journey. The Mongolian steppe is the land of horses and this landscape is absolute heaven to ride.

Day 5 Horse Trekking
Each night we will choose a suitable camp, prepare a fire and take in the beauty of this remote landscape. On our final day of riding, we will have our last meal with our nomadic hosts who will leave us in the morning to head back home. Mongolia has almost no light pollution so remember to do some stargazing as it is one of the best places in the Northern Hemisphere to see the night sky.

Day 6  Hot Springs and Ancient Cities
After a few days of riding, we start our journey to the Tsenkher natural hot springs. We are back in the vehicles for this and depending on where our riding adventure has taken us and local conditions the journey time may vary. The springs are part of the Khangai mountain park and once we arrive we will be able to rest our weary limbs in the healing waters and time permitting explore the surrounding valleys and woodland. We will stay at one of the local Ger camps here with fire attendants to keep our Ger nice and cosy.

Day 7
After perhaps another dip in the healing waters we drive to Kharakorum (the site of Mongolia’s Ancient Capital). It is a 2hr/3hr drive on a mix of dirt and paved roads. Once we arrive we will visit the museum on local history. Unfortunately, most of the city was destroyed, partially rebuilt as a monastery and destroyed again but today a few buildings do remain and it is still an active monastery with roughly 100 monks at the Erdene Zuu Monastery complex inside.

Day 8 Return to Ulaanbaatar
We drive 5–6 hours back to UB on paved roads. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore the city before the next adventure.

Golden Eagle Festival
This annual festival in Western Mongolia celebrates Kazakh heritage. Eagle hunters showcase their trained Golden Eagles in thrilling contests like mock hunts and retrieval challenges. Judging is based on speed, skill, and traditional dress. Set against the backdrop of the Altai Mountains, the festival offers a rare glimpse into one of Central Asia’s most unique and ancient traditions.

Day 9
Fly to Western Mongolia & spend the night in Ulgii city. Depending on flight availability we will either fly to Ulgii or Khovd (3hrs drive). The landscape here is very different as we are in the foothills of the Altai mountains. If we have to take the 3hr drive from Khovd it we will enjoy the scenery landscapes drive.
Day 10
Ulgii will be filled with Eagle Hunters heading to the spectacular Lone Rock, 7 km from the provincial capital. The festival begins with the opening ceremony & parade, where competitors present their finest traditional attire to the judges. The rest of the day features eagle calling: the eagle is released from Lone Rock by another hunter and must return to its owner in the valley below. Traditional horse games like buzkashi a tug-of-war on horseback will also be held. Between competitions, explore the many stalls. In the evening, we’ll stay with a local Eagle Hunter whose family will host us and may even offer a private eagle demonstration.

Day 11
The second day of the festival begins with mock hunts. One hunter releases their eagle while another drags a fox or hare carcass behind their horse. The eagle earns points for speed, agility, and technique. It's a powerful showcase of these majestic birds' capabilities and a chance to capture some incredible photos.

Day 12
Depending on flight availability, we return to Ulaanbaatar. The famous Black Market is open today your best chance to pick up souvenirs. It closes every Tuesday but reopens on Wednesday. In the evening, we gather for a final group dinner to say farewell to our support crew, share stories with fellow travelers, and prepare for the next journey.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT:

International flights can be arranged upon request, subject to availability. A 10% service fee will apply to cover handling and booking costs.

  • DOMESTIC FLIGHT:

Flight schedules are usually published in midsummer and seats can fill up quickly. To avoid any last‑minute scrambling, please allow at least an extra day or two at the end of your adventure before booking onward travel. That way, if flights need to shift, you’ll have the flexibility to adjust without stress. Domestic flights aren’t included in the tour price, but we’re happy to reserve seats on your behalf. Return fares typically run around €250.

The extra day is a good opportunity to pick up souvenirs such as cashmere at the various factory shops around the city. Mongolia is the second biggest exporter of cashmere globally. A day trip to the Giant Chinggis Khan Statue and Terelj National Park, just a couple of hours from the capital, can also be arranged if you prefer something more active. This can be decided at the end of the trip.

  • VISA:

Visa requirements differ depending on your nationality. We strongly recommend verifying the latest entry regulations with official immigration authorities before you travel. Roxy Travel Plan can provide general guidance or advice upon request; however, we cannot take responsibility for visa approvals, rejections, or changes in immigration policies.

  • CASH/ATM:

Mongolia is still largely a cash-based country, especially outside the capital. In Ulaanbaatar, ATMs are widely available and most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops accept credit or debit cards. However, once you venture into rural areas — particularly during expeditions around Lake Khovsgol, the Altai, the Orkhon Valley, or the Gobi Desert, cash becomes essential.

Many guesthouses, local eateries, and small vendors operate on a cash-only basis, and ATMs are scarce or nonexistent. It’s best to withdraw sufficient Mongolian Tugrik (MNT) before leaving the city and carry small notes for everyday purchases or tips.

  • CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & TRAVEL INSURANCE:

Once bookings have been confirmed, all cancellations will follow the terms and conditions of our local suppliers and service providers. Please note that many partners require advance payments to secure availability, and their refund policies may vary. We will always do our best to recover any refundable amounts wherever possible, but some services may be fully non-refundable depending on supplier conditions.

We strongly recommend that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected changes. This ensures peace of mind and financial protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

MONGOLIA SPECIFIC INFORMATION
  • WILD CAMPING:

On this extraordinary journey, we’ll venture deep into Mongolia’s most remote and untouched regions—where wild camping isn’t just part of the experience, but a true highlight. Thanks to Mongolia’s "right to roam," we can pitch our tents wherever the views are most breathtaking. With virtually no light pollution, clear skies, and elevations above 1500m, it’s a stargazer’s paradise.

As night falls, gather around a crackling campfire, where our camp chef will prepare delicious meals beneath the open sky. Share stories with fellow adventurers, watch the Milky Way stretch across the heavens, and drift off to sleep to the sounds of the wild. Tents are provided but for the full experience, we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag or roll mat.

  • STAYING WILD:

In the vast and untamed Mongolian countryside, modern comforts give way to authenticity and that’s part of the magic. We live simply, drawing fresh water from rivers and lakes for washing. It can be heated over the fire for a warm rinse or even used for a quick laundry wash. Feel like a dip? Go ahead! Just remember to use only biodegradable, eco-friendly soaps to protect these pristine waters.

Many lakes and rivers here are so clean, they meet UK drinking water standards but we recommend boiling or filtering any water you drink. Bottled water will also be available throughout the tour to keep you safe and hydrated.

  • EAGLE HUNTER FESTIVAL:

High in the Altai Mountains, among snow-dusted peaks and windswept plains, the Golden Eagle Festival brings centuries of tradition to life. For two unforgettable days, you’ll witness Kazakh eagle hunters in action racing across the land with their powerful birds, competing in hunting games, horseback archery, and wrestling matches. Music, dance, and rich cultural rituals fill the air. It is not just a show it’s a celebration of identity, pride, and survival. An experience so raw, powerful, and rare, it will stay with you long after you’ve left the steppe behind.

  • RIDING EXPERIENCE:

Never ridden before? No worries. All you need is a sense of adventure and a willingness to try. Our skilled nomadic guides will ride alongside you, offering support and sharing their deep knowledge of the land and horses. Each day, we’ll cover 20–30 km over about six hours a comfortable pace for beginners. If you need a break, a support vehicle is always nearby. For experienced riders, there are plenty of chances to break away, canter through the open landscape, and explore deeper into Mongolia’s wild beauty with an extra guide by your side.

  • FOOD & DRIVING:

Please note: While we provide hearty and filling meals throughout the journey, some dishes may be simpler due to the remoteness of the region. Vegetarian options are available upon request, though choices may be more limited given the logistical challenges of sourcing fresh produce in rural Mongolia.

Please be aware that travel times in Mongolia can be long, and some roads are unpaved or rugged. Extended days spent in vehicles are sometimes unavoidable due to the vast distances and the nature of the terrain. This is part of the authentic experience of exploring Mongolia’s remote wilderness.

TRAVEL GUIDE BOOK

You’ll receive a comprehensive Travel Guide Book in PDF format with all your confirmed bookings, key travel information, and a personalized day-by-day itinerary designed specifically for you.

The guide also includes practical tips to help your trip go smoothly, along with must-see locations, local eateries, hand-picked café recommendations we have personally tried and loved.

We will even connect you with reliable local taxi drivers, guides, and companies we have met during our own travels and fully trust.

WEATHER

Mongolia’s nickname is no exaggeration. With more than 260 sunny days a year, the skies are vast, high, and impossibly blue. Expect warm days (20–30°C), but when the sun dips, temperatures can fall below 5°C—especially in the mountains. Pack layers, a four-season sleeping bag, and a warm mat. If you're prepared, sleeping under the open sky becomes one of the most magical parts of the journey.

INTERNET & SIM CARDS

SIM cards are available almost everywhere in Mongolia, including directly at the airport upon arrival. If you prefer not to purchase a physical SIM card, you can easily use an eSIM from Airalo — you’ll find more details and a 10% discount in our Travel Guide Book.

During the horseback expedition and the Hunting Eagle Festival network coverage is extremely limited or often nonexistent. This remote region offers a rare chance to fully disconnect, leaving behind screens and signals to reconnect instead with the silence of nature, the rhythm of your horse, and the vast beauty of Mongolia’s wilderness.
